Meet Results: Statesmen / Lady Statesmen
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Delta State University opened the new season for the Swim and Dive teams as they traveled to the University of Alabama. Both the Statesmen (199-98) and Lady Statesmen (216-79) were defeated against the team from the Southeastern Conference.
Fabrice WendelFabrice Wendel claimed victory in the 100-Freestyle (45.22) ahead of a pair of Alabama swimmers. Newcomer
Andreas Meuser collected a fourth place finish in the race (47.18) in his first meet swimming for Delta State.
Andreas Wiesner (50.12) and
Yvan Nys (52.40) took second and third place in the 100-Backstroke, while
Matteo Fraschi (56.67) and
Max Pendall (57.08) took second and third place in the 100-Butterfly. Fraschi was edged at the finish by 0.06 seconds by Pavel Romanov.
Vlad Zinca added a second place (49.88)in the 100-Butterfly and fourth place (1:54.30) in the 200-Butterfly.
Wiesner added a victory later in the meet in the 200-Backstroke (1:50.16) while Nys (1:57.23) ended up sixth. Wiesner (1:51.95), Pendall (1:54.20), and Fraschi (1:54.54) brought home the 2-3-4 finishes in the 200-Individual Medley.
Matthew Swaine was the top finishing Statesmen diver with a fourth place finish in the 1M and Platform diving competitions.
The Lady Statesmen claimed a pair of runner-up finishes as
Anastasia Klyarovskaya (55.54) took second in the 100-Backstroke and
Melanie Tombers (2:11.22) was second in the 200-Individual Medley. Tombers (10:26.70) added a
Melanie Tombersfourth place finish in the 1,000-Freestyle.
Chloe Bennett added a pair of top finishes with a third place effort in the 100-Freestyle (54.05) and a fourth place (24.50) in the 50-Freestyle.
Kirsten Stroven (2:32.06),
Dani Meerholz (2:33.55), and
Ami Tipper (2:41.62) took 3-4-5 honors in the 200-Breaststroke. Meerholz (1:57.74) added a third place finish in the 200-Freestyle. Stroven (2:19.73) and Tipper (2:28.28) added third and fourth place finishes in the 200-Individual Medley.
Sarah Hoop topped the Lady Statesmen diving efforts with a fourth place finish from both the 1M and Platform dives.
Delta State returns to competition on October 11 at Western Kentucky University from Bowling Green, Ky. as part of the road schedule to open the season with the first home meet from the DSU Aquatics Center to be held December 13-16 in the form of the DSU Christmas Invitational.
