Schmidt's Game-High 16 Points Leads DSU in 74-40 Loss to Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Delta State University men's basketball wrapped up exhibition play with a 74-40 loss to Arkansas on Tuesday night, a final tune up before regular season action.

How It Happened
  • The Statesmen played the Division I Arkansas Razorbacks close through the first part of the first half, as Arkansas held the narrow lead 14-12 at the under 12 media timeout.
  • Following the break, the Razorbacks used a 6-0 run to go up 27-14 with 8:07 to go in the half.
  • Delta State chipped away at the lead to pull within nine points, 27-18, with seven minutes left in the first half. DSU used a layup and a jumper from PJ Davis on consecutive trips down the court.
  • Arkansas used a 13-1 run over 4:26 to go up 40-19 with 2:17 to go before halftime.
  • The Razorbacks maintained the lead, 41-23, heading into the locker room. A foul-plagued first half from DSU gave Arkansas the edge, scoring 13 points from the charity stripe.
  • Devin Schmidt opened second-half action with a layup and a 3-pointer to give DSU some momentum cutting the Arkansas lead to 13, 41-28.
  • Soon after, the Razorbacks exploded offensively to go up by their largest margin 74-40 with 1:57 remaining in the contest, which proved to be the final score.
  • A Delta State scoring drought allowed the Razorbacks to make an 11-0 run to close out the game.
 
Notables
  • DSU's 23 fouls in the contest allowed Arkansas to go 17-of-20 from the charity stripe.
  • Schmidt, a junior guard, tied for the most points scored in the contest. He and UA's Moses Kingsley contributed 16 points each.
  • The Razorbacks are now 10-0 in exhibition games under Head Coach Mike Anderson, and an impressive 68-8 in Bud Walton Arena.
