CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Becca Ruckes scored 18 points to led four Delta State University (6-0, 3-0 GSC) players in double figures in a 73-30 win over Christian Brothers (2-4, 0-3 GSC) on Thursday at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum.

How It Happened
  • Christian Brothers held an early 5-3 lead before enduring a 6:44 scoring drought that saw the Lady Statesmen go on a 10-0 run to take a 13-5 with under three minutes left in the first quarter.
  • The Lady Statesmen closed the first quarter on a 15-3 run to take an 18-8 lead after an Aspriona Gilbert layup in the final seconds.
  • Delta State opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 58-25 lead on a Chelsey Rhodes 3-pointer at the 7:24 mark.
  • Ruckes scored eight straight points, as the Lady Statesmen outscored the Bucs 15-3 in the second quarter to take a 33-11 lead into halftime.
  • Delta State outscored the Bucs 19-9 in the third quarter. Alondrea Rush connected on two 3-pointers, while Mary Carol Davis and Rhodes added one apiece.
  • DSU went on to outscore Christian Brothers 21-10 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 73-30 win.
  • A native of Ripley, Ruckes led four Lady Statesmen in double figures with 18 points. Gilbert chipped in a career-high 15 points, while Rhodes and Rush added 14 points each.

  • CBU's 30 points was the lowest point total allowed by any Lady Statesmen team in the NCAA era, dating back to Albany State's 36 points in 1989.
  • The Lady Statesmen have won two straight and are 20-0 all-time at Walter Sillers Coliseum in the series with CBU.
  • Delta State is off to a 6-0 start for the first time since 2010-11 when the Lady Statesmen started the year 14-0. The 3-0 league start is the first since the 2013-14 season when the Lady Statesmen started 9-0 in the GSC.    
  • Rhodes' 14 points moved her into 21st on the Lady Statesmen all-time scoring list, passing Mary Adams (1,308/1977-81) and Wanda Hairston (1,312/1974-77). Rhodes needs two points to pass Trina Davis (1,318/1995-98) for 20th all-time. The Monticello, Ark., native has scored in double figures in 13 of her last 14 games and for the 63rd time in her DSU career. 
  • The Lady Statesmen are 3-0 at home this season and have won 10 straight home games, dating back to a 73-69 loss to West Florida (12.20.14).
  • Craig Roden coached his 979th career NCAA game against Christian Brothers and earned his 521st career win.
