Statesmen basketball improved to 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in Gulf South Conference play with wins over Christian Brothers (74-71) and No. 24 Union (71-69), while enjoying a three-game win streak for the second time this season.
Delta State remains at the top of the league in 3-point shooting with a 41.4 percentage (84-of-203) and second in field goal percentage (49.1 percent).
The Green-and-White broke into the D2SIDA Media Poll at No. 23 and are receiving votes in the NABC Poll.
Junior guard
Devin Schmidt continues his rampage toward the top of the DSU all-time scoring list. His 30-point performance against Christian Brothers, his eighth 30-point game of his career, and his 24 points against Union hoisted him into seventh on the list with 1,359 career points.

The series record between Delta State and Valdosta is a close one, as it is tied at 19-19. However, DSU is 5-11 at The Complex since the series started in 1983. The Statesmen hold the advantage in the short-standing series with West Florida 11-5 and are 4-2 at the UWF Field House.
Delta State begins play in 2016 with a two-game home stand. DSU faces North Alabama on Saturday, Jan. 2 and Alabama Huntsville on Monday, Jan. 4. Tip-offs are slated for 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively, at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
