VALDOSTA, Georgia – Delta State University men's basketball dropped a GSC contest at Valdosta State, 62-52, on Thursday night at The Complex.

    How It Happened
  • Valdosta State opened the game on a 13-5 run to take an eight-point lead at the 14:55 mark.
  • Jack Madgen's jumper with 4:39 to go in the half put the Statesmen within striking distance, 18-17.
  • However, the Blazers closed out first-half action with a 13-4 run to take a 31-21 lead into the locker room.
  • VSU maintained its double-digit advantage in the second half until Devin Schmidt's 3-pointer at the 9:18 mark cut the lead to 44-37.
  • The Blazers jumped back out to a 10-point lead, 53-43, with 5:12 left on the game clock.
  • James Kilpatrick used a layup with one minute left to put Delta State within five, 57-52, but the Statesmen never scored again.
  • Valdosta went 5-of-7 at the charity stripe in the home stretch to take a 62-52 victory.

    Notables
  • Delta State shot 34.6 percent from the field (18-of-52) and 11.8 percent from 3-point land (2-of-17); both are season-lows. DSU is now 5-12 all time at The Complex.
  • Schmidt was the lone Statesmen to score in double-figures with 16 points. The 6-foot-4 junior now has 1,375 career points to rank seventh on the all-time scoring list at DSU.
  • Madgen continues his climb to 1,000 career points. The senior guard needs 24 points, as he has 976 in his fourth year with the Green-and-White.
