The Statesmen basketball team is on a three-game win streak entering Gulf South Conference play. DSU picked up wins over Johnson University, LeMoyne-Owen and Arkansas-Monticello to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Junior guard
Devin Schmidt broke into the top 10 on the all-time scoring list at Delta State with his double-double 16 points and 11 assists against LeMoyne-Owen. Schmidt now has 1,248 career points in 92 games and holds the No. 10 spot.
Jack Madgen is on the cusp of becoming the next Statesman to reach the 1,000-point club. The senior Williamstown, Australia native is 58 points away from the milestone.
Head Coach
Jim Boone is five wins away from eclipsing 400 at the NCAA Division II level and 13 away from his 500th career win.
The series with West Georgia started in 1985 with Delta State taking the innagural 75-67 win at Walter Sillers. Thursday's matchup is the 43rd meeting all-time and 21st at The Coliseum in Carrollton, Ga. The Wolves' home court has proven to be a tough environment to overcome, as DSU posts an 8-12 record overall at West Georgia and have lost four out of the last five.
West Alabama's matchup on Saturday, Dec. 5 marks the 68th meeting between the two squads, one of the longest standing series in the current Gulf South Conference. The first meeting occurred on Dec. 10, 1948 and saw Delta State win 50-44 in Cleveland.
Delta State returns home after the conference-opening road swing to take on Christian Brothers on Thursday, Dec. 10 and Union on Sunday, Dec. 14. Tip-offs are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
