Delta State Rallies Back to Defeat Tigers 57-54

LIVINGSTON, Alabama – Down by as many as 15 points in the second half, Delta State University men's basketball rallied back to defeat West Alabama 57-54 on Saturday at Pruitt Hall.

    How It Happened
  • Terry Morris and Devin Schmidt's jumpers started Delta State's offense in the opening minutes of the contest, tying the game at 4-4 at the 15:21 mark.
  • The score was tied two more times before the Tigers drained three consecutive 3-pointers to take a 21-12 lead with 5:36 to go in the half.
  • Brett Warner's jumper closed out first-half action, with DSU going into the break trailing 30-24.
  • West Alabama held the Statesmen to a 39.1 shooting percentage from the field on 9-of-23 from the floor.
  • The Tigers quickly extended their lead over DSU to 44-29, reeling off a 14-5 run over 7:35 of game action.
  • Delta State crushed the threat by going on a 12-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Schmidt. The Green-and-White worked their way back to tie the game 44-44 with 8:16 left on the game clock.
  • The Statesmen earned their first lead since the first half, 46-44, at the 7:19 mark on a couple of free throws from Jack Madgen.

  • In a low-scoring affair, Devin Schmidt was the only Statesmen to score in double-figures with 32. The junior guard moves into eighth place on the all-time scoring list at Delta State with 1,305 career points. Schmidt narrowly missed reaching his career-high 35 points, a feat he has met twice in his tenure.
  • Jack Madgen is slowly climbing his way to the 1,000-point plateau. The senior guard needs 44 points, as he holds 956 career points.
  • Head Coach Jim Boone is now four wins away from eclipsing 400 at the NCAA Division II level and 12 away from his 500th career win.
