Delta State Men's Basketball Drops Second Straight on the Road to Lee, 70-58

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Delta State's Devin Schmidt led the Statesmen with 27 points in DSU's 70-58 road loss to Lee University on Saturday night.

How It Happened
  • Devin Schmidt was the only form of offense the Statesmen had seven minutes into the game, scoring all 14 points to notch the score at 17-14 in favor of Lee at the 13:06 mark.
  • The Flames extended their lead to 21-16 with 10:45 left in the first half.
  • Jamal Hester's put-back on a PJ Davis missed layup put the lead in Delta State's possession, 22-21, at the 6:39 mark.
  • The score was deadlocked at 22-22 just seconds later before Lee came away with the lead. DSU trailed 29-24 to head into the locker room.
  • Out of the break, Lee University led by as many as 11, 51-40, with 9:40 remaining in the contest, the largest lead of the night at that point, before the Statesmen began to close the gap.
  • LU halted Delta State's comeback attempt, reeling off a 15-4 run down the home stretch.
  • The Green-and-White dropped their second straight road game, 70-58.
  • Schmidt led all scorers with 27 points. Davis added a double-double, 13 points and 10 boards, his seventh of the season.

  • Devin Schmidt has now scored 15-plus points in 22 out of the total 27 games this season. The Sevierville, Tenn. native has also dropped 20-plus points in five of the last six games.
  • The Flames held DSU to its lowest field-goal percentage all season (34.5%), as well as from the line (59.1%)

  • The Statesmen will wrap up regular season play on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Walter Sillers Coliseum, as DSU welcomes in-state rival Mississippi College on Senior Day. LaQuavius Cotton and Alister Chisholm will be honored. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
