  • Short Story: Delta State held off a late rally to earn a 60-56 win over rival Mississippi College on Thursday at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum.  Senior Rhandi Ball recorded her first double-double of the season, scoring 21 points while grabbing 11 rebounds to lead DSU. Junior Chelsey Rhodes added 14 points along with four assists and four steals. Senior Seneca Walton had 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds to become the 13th Lady Statesmen to collect over 800 rebounds.
     
How It Happened
  • Trailing 5-0, Delta State went on a 10-0 run to take a 10-5 lead after a Rhandi Ball layup with 14:51 left in the first half.
  • The Lady Statesmen used a 10-2 run to take a 22-12 lead after a Rhodes' layup at the 10:16 mark.
  • Mississippi College had scoring droughts of 2:44 and 2:30 to close the first half.
  • Rhandi Ball's two layups to close the first half gave the Lady Statesmen a 37-28 halftime lead.  DSU outscored MC 32-8 in the paint and 14-4 on second chance points at the half.
  • Delta State used an 8-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game, 45-30, with 16:28 to go in the second half.
  • Seneca Walton scored the next six points to give the Lady Statesmen a 55-41 lead with 8:16 remaining.
  • The Lady Statesmen went scoreless for the next 5:53 while Mississippi College cut the lead to 58-56 on a 9-0 run with 1:27 left in the game. 
  • The Choctaws had two chances to tie the game missing a jumper in the paint coupled with a Seneca Walton steal on the final possession.
  • Chelsey Rhodes hit a pair of free throws with 6.9 seconds left to give DSU the 60-56 win.
  • Rhandi Ball recorded her first double-double of the season, leading the Lady Statesmen with 21 points and 11 rebounds along with three assists, three blocks and two steals.
  • Rhodes had 14 points, four assists and four steals followed by Seneca Walton with 10 points and eight rebounds.

  • Rhandi Ball ranks eighth in career steals list with 232 career steals after her two steals against Mississippi College.
