Delta State Softball Drops Two on the Road at Valdosta

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Delta State University softball dropped a pair of road games to No. 2 Valdosta State on Sunday afternoon at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
  • A solo homerun from Kaitlin Moore put the Lady Statesmen ahead early in the first inning, 1-0.
  • The Blazers responded by scoring four runs in two consecutive innings in the bottom of the first and second to take the commanding 8-1 lead.
  • Valdosta's heavy hitting tacked on three more runs in the third to lead 11-1 over the Lady Statemen.
  • Amber Adcock singled down the right field line in the top of the fifth to notch the score at 11-2, but the deficit was too much to overcome, as Delta State fell to VSU 11-2 by run rule.
  • Valdosta State outhit the Lady Statesmen 11-3 with Moore, Adcock, and Kassidy Tally recording the only hits.
  • Taylor Johnson (3-1) suffered the loss, giving up eight earned runs on nine hits.
     
Game Two
  • VSU's hot bats carried over into game two. Valdosta scored five runs in the bottom of the second to take the early lead 5-0.
  • Senior Taylor Holland answered with a two-run homerun in the top of the third, scoring Tally, to cut the lead to 5-2.
  • Five more Blazer runs over two innings gave Valdosta the 10-2 lead and the win.
  • Andrea Cutts led offensively, going 2-for-2 from the plate, while Holland drove in both runs.
  • Taylor Tucker (1-3) suffered the loss pitching 1.2 innings and giving up five earned runs on five hits and four walks.
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Taylor Holland's homerun is her first since her second career game against Henderson State on Feb. 10, 2012.
  • Due to bad weather, Delta State was off the field for two weeks heading into the matchup with Valdosta.
  • The Lady Statesmen have lost three straight.
     
WHO'S NEXT
Delta State will stay in Georgia to play Georgia College and State University on Monday, March 2. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m.
