CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University softball team was back at University Field on Sunday night for the first time since the end of January, as they faced Gulf South Conference opponent Union University. DSU suffered a 4-1 loss in game one of the three-game series.

HOW IT HAPPENEDGame One- After a hitting stalemate for the first two innings, Kassidy Tally recorded the first hit of the game between both squads on a leadoff triple to left center field. The very next at-bat, the squeeze was on for Taylor Holland and was executed perfectly, bringing Tally around to score for Delta State to take the 1-0 advantage.
- Union retaliated in a big way in the top of the sixth on a Carter Mansolino 3-run homerun, notching the score at 3-1 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.
- UU tacked on another run in the top of the seventh via Emily Bennett's RBI-single down the third base line, scoring Sarah Kreuter. Union went into the bottom frame with the 4-1 lead.
- Shayna Beaver (4-2) suffered the loss, pitching the complete game and giving up four unearned runs on seven hits.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE- The contest was a low-hitting affair for Delta State, recording only one hit.
- Junior Kassidy Tally is now five stolen bases away from tying the Delta State and Gulf South Conference record for career-stolen bases. The record is held by former Lady Statesman Alyse Hasty with 135. Tally also extended her hit streak to ten games and has reached base in the last 12 games.
- Union outhit DSU 7-1, while Delta State left eight runners stranded, five being in scoring position.
