HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • With two runners aboard in the bottom of the second, Taylor Holland got the scoring rally started with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Jessie Rodriguez from third. Amber Adcock and Kaitlin Moore strung two hits together in back-to-back at-bats to plate two more runs to take the 3-0 advantage.
  • Leading off the third inning, junior Kassidy Tally reached first on a single, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a passed ball to notch the score at 4-0 in favor of DSU.
  • Adcock and Moore carried their momentum into the fourth inning, reaching on two consecutive RBI-doubles and extended the Delta State lead to 6-0.
  • The fifth inning was all Moore and Adcock again as the duo drove in the final two Delta State runs to take the run-rule victory, 8-0, in five innings. Adcock singled to center field to score Memrie Corley, while Moore's triple scored Ellen Tarrant.
  • A phenomenal pitching performance from freshman Shayna Beaver (6-4) sealed the deal for the Lady Statesmen. The Paragould, Ark. native pitched the complete game, holding the Wolves to no runs on seven hits and earning her first career shutout.
  • Three Lady Statesmen put up multi-hit performances in Adcock, Moore, and Corley. Moore and Adcock led the way with Moore going 3-for-3 from the plate and Adcock going 3-for-4.

Game 2
  • The Wolves came out on a rampage in the early innings, recording the same amount of hits in the first two innings as the entire first game. UWG's Randi Phillips started the four-run campaign in the top of the first via a solo home run on the first pitch. Back-to-back extra-base hits along with an RBI single brought three more West Georgia runs around to score for the Wolves to gain their first lead of the day 4-0.
  • Delta State responded in the bottom frame of the first when Brook Cline singled through the hole at shortstop scoring Holland from third, cutting the advantage to 4-1 in favor of UWG.
  • Both squads went scoreless through three innings before DSU made a comeback effort in the bottom of the fifth.
  • A walk and Cline's third hit of the game started the offensive strike. With two runners in scoring position and one out, Kory Watterson came through in the clutch with a two-RBI single to right center field to score Moore and Ashley Mrozinski. The two-run outing put the Green-and-White within one run, 4-3.
  • West Georgia's three, four, and five hitters knocked in three more runs in the top of the fourth followed by an RBI-single from Heather Sexton. The Wolves extended their lead to 8-3 over Delta State.
  • Heads-up base running by Holland and execution on a UWG fielding error tacked on another run for DSU in the bottom of the sixth, notching the score at 8-4 in favor of West Georgia.
  • The Lady Statesmen never recovered from the deficit, falling by a final 8-4.
  • Katie Justice (1-3) suffered the loss in the circle for DSU. Four pitchers were used in the defeat.
  • Senior Cline led the offense, going 3-for-4 with one RBI, her third multi-hit game of the season. Holland and Watterson followed with two hits each.
