HOW IT HAPPENED- The Lady Statesmen started strong in their offensive attack in the first inning. Following a Kaitlin Moore single to center field, junior Kory Watterson crushed a homer over the left field fence to give Delta State the early 2-0 advantage.
- It wasn't long before the Wolves responded. In the top of the second, West Georgia used back-to-back RBI hits from the bottom of the order and a two-RBI single from Jordan Corbin to snatch the lead, 4-2.
- In the bottom frame of the second, Delta State's top of the order delivered to tie the game at 4-4. Taylor Holland singled to right field to score Kara Lane Nowell, while Amber Adcock singled down the left field line, bringing in Memrie Corley.
- With Kassidy Tally aboard at third base, Nowell executed on a squeeze play to bring Tally home for DSU to regain the advantage 5-4 in the bottom of the third.
- Kory Watterson's second home run of the day hit off the scoreboard in left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and extending DSU's lead to 7-4.
- The Lady Statesmen were able to hold on the advantage, taking the series finale, 7-4, and earning the series win.
- Watterson led the offense, going 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored and four RBIs. Holland followed with a 2-for-4 outing.
- Freshman Taylor Johnson (6-2) earned the win, her only blemish coming from UWG's four-run campaign in the second inning. The Long Beach, Miss., native tossed the complete game, giving up four earned runs on nine hits.
STAT OF THE GAME- Kory Watterson's two blasts in the series finale drove in four of the team's total seven runs to take game three and the series.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE- Amber Adcock's RBI in the bottom of the second placed her in the fifth spot on the all-time RBI list in the Delta State record book. The senior infielder now has 130 career RBIs and is chasing the record holder Alyse Hasty (2003-06) with 172.
- Junior Kaitlin Moore has now reached base in 13 consecutive games.
- The series win over West Georgia marks the second Gulf South Conference series win for Delta State. The first was against West Alabama in the 2015 conference opener in Livingston, Ala.
