CLINTON, Mississippi – Drew Milligan tossed a complete game three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to help lead Delta State 16-12, 11-7 GSC) to an 11-0 win in game one of a Gulf South Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Frierson Field. Austin Warkentin's RBI single capped a three-run eighth to give the Choctaws the 7-6 win in the night cap.

@DSUBaseball HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)- After a scoreless first inning, the Statesmen scored seven runs in the second to take 7-0 lead. Trent Giambrone's RBI double scored Ethan Gill and a Matt Barrett two-run double plated Landon Thibodeaux and Giambrone. Barrett came home on a Jacob Swiney single and Jonathan Andrews singled and scored on a Pickard single. Pickard and Swiney later scored on a Colton Welch double to cap the inning.
- The Statesmen added a run in the fifth, two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to build the 10-0 lead. Welch launched his sixth home run of the year in the fifth. Barrett notched his fourth home run of the season and Cummins reached on an error and scored on a Pickard single in the sixth. Swiney drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh to score Thibodeaux.
- DSU starter Drew Milligan (2-1) struck out nine Choctaws while allowing no runs and scattering three hits to earn the win.
- Mississippi College starter Jake Fraze gave up 10 runs, nine earned, with two strikeouts and a walk in five innings.
- Welch went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs and Barrett was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Swiney, and Pickard had two hits and two RBIs while Andrews had two hits and walked once.
STAT OF GAME 1- Five of Milligan's nine strikeouts were strikeouts looking.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)- Delta State scored a run in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. Swiney had a one out single and scored on a two-out single in the first. Swiney walked and stole second before scoring on a Gill single to right in the third.
- The Choctaws used a four-run fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Hunter Bolin cut the DSU lead to 2-1 with an RBI single and Colton Johnson followed with a three-run home run to highlight the inning.
- Thibodeaux led off the sixth inning with a single and Marc McMillian hit a two-run home run with one out to tie the game 4-4. The Statesmen had runners at second and third only to see a pair of strikeouts end the inning.
- Mississippi College loaded the bases in the bottom seventh but reliever Nick Goza got a strikeout and a line out to end the threat.
- The Statesmen scored two runs in the eighth to take a 6-4 lead. Juan Rivera singled and McMillian reached on a field error on a sac-bunt attempt to start the fame. Dalton Skelton reached on a fielder's choice and Pickard singled to score Skelton and pinch runner Austin McClain with two outs.
- Mississippi College answered with three runs in the bottom of the eighth for the walk off win. A Colton Caver two-run single tied the game and Austin Warkentin delivered the game winning single to right.
- Nick Goza (2-5) took the loss in relief of starter Jonathan Moody. Goza gave up two runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout in one inning of work. Moody yielded four runs on 12 hits with two strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
- Grady Turman (2-2) gave up two unearned runs on three hits with a strikeout to earn the win for the Choctaws.
STAT OF GAME 2- Delta State left 10 runners on base five in scoring position.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE- Delta State had a four-game winning streak snapped in the game two loss.
- The extra inning game was just the third time in 165 meetings with DSU falling to 2-1 in extra innings.
- The Statesmen are now 5-8 in one-run games this season.
- Statesmen Head Coach Mike Kinnison earned win number 801in game on eand are now 801-253-2 at DSU.
- Welch's three RBI's in game one marked his second three RBI game and his sixth multiple RBI game this season.
- Milligan's nine strikeouts fell one shy of his career-high and give him 59 strikeouts in 53.2 innings pitched this season.
- Delta State's three home runs in the doubleheader give the Statesmen 28 home runs this season (16 in 2014).
