HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • Three innings went by before either team found their way on the scoreboard, but it was Delta State that struck first. DSU scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take the 4-0 advantage. Kory Watterson smashed a two-run home run, her fifth of the season, while Jessie Rodriguez reached on an error by MC's right fielder, which scored Mariah Alvarez. The final run of the frame came on a squeeze play, executed by Memrie Corley that scored Kassidy Tally from third.
  • The next inning featured a Tally RBI-single that scored Watterson, giving DSU the commanding 5-0 lead.
  • Alvarez's third homer of the year, a solo shot, notched the score at 6-0 in favor of the Green-and-White.
  • The Lady Statesmen blanked the Lady Choctaws, their second of the season, by a final 6-0.
  • A tremendous pitching performance by freshman Shayna Beaver (8-5) kept the Lady Choctaws off the board for her second career complete-game shutout. The Paragould, Ark., native went seven strong innings, giving up five hits and allowing two walks.
  • Junior Kassidy Tally led the offense, going 2-for-4 from the plate, scoring once and driving in one run. Six other Lady Statesmen recorded one hit.

Game 2
  • It was Mississippi College that got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when Hux's RBI-double gave MC the 1-0 lead.
  • In the home half of the fourth, Mississippi College's Lee singled through the hole at shortstop, plating another Lady Choctaws run to go up 2-0 over DSU.
  • Junior Alvarez's double to left center field in the top of the sixth put the Lady Statesmen on the board and cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
  • Delta State could not get anything going in its last at-bat in the seventh, as DSU fell in game two by a final 2-1.
  • Taylor Johnson (8-4) suffered the loss, going 6.0 innings and giving up two earned runs on nine hits.
  • The Lady Choctaws outhit DSU 9-7. Three Lady Statesmen provided two-hit performances in Taylor Holland, Kaitlin Moore, and Alvarez, while Tally went 1-for-3.

STAT OF THE DAY
  • DSU scored in three consecutive innings in game one, putting up six unanswered runs, after being scoreless through the first three.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Junior Kassidy Tally ranks fourth on the all-time runs scored list at Delta State. The Raleigh, Miss., native has scored 125 times in her tenure with the Lady Statesmen. She is four away from passing Meredith Coleman (2003-06) in the four spot with 128.
  • With Kaitlin Moore's double in game two, she is now third in the Delta State record book for career doubles. The 5-foot-10 outfielder now has 47 career extra base hits and is chasing the leader, fellow teammate, Amber Adcock who has 49.
  • Mariah Alvarez has certainly hit her stride in the batter's box. The junior from Saginaw, Texas is 12-for-26 (.462) in the last nine games.
