Box Score 2 GSC Tournament Homepage PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Delta State University baseball team left 14 runners on base in a pair of losses to West Florida Sunday at Jim Spooner Field. West Florida (30-16, 21-11 GSC) held on for a 2-0 victory in the resumption of a suspended game, before coming back to defeat the Statesmen (22-16, 15-10) 6-5 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE- The Argonauts took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by Ledarious Clark and Nick Kerkmann.
- West Florida left eight runners on base, while the Statesmen stranded seven. Â
- Drew Milligan (2-2) allowed two runs on five hits. Cody Waddell allowed just two hits in 3.1 innings of relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO- DSU scored its first run of the day in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Ben Pickard.
- The Statesmen extended their lead to 2-0 in the second with Marc McMillian's fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.
- DSU chased UWF starting pitcher Jarrod Petree in the third following an RBI single by Jacob Swiney, which pushed the advantage to 3-0.
- The Argonauts responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the third, sending seven batters to the plate and taking advantage of a pair of walks by Jonathan Moody.
- DSU threatened in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with no outs, but Colton Welch hit into a double play to end the inning.
- West Florida tied the game at five in the bottom of the fifth, sending seven batters to the plate. The Argos also had three hits and two walks in a frame for the second time in the contest.Â
- Nick Kerkmann drove in what proved to be the winning run with a seventh inning double that scored Nic Strasser.
- Witt Haggard (1-2) took the loss in relief, despite allowing just two hits in 3.1 innings. Moody allowed five runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work.
- Reed Bright (4-3) allowed just two hits in 4.2 innings of relief work for the Argos.
STAT OF THE GAME- GAME ONE: Brandon Nagem (7-2) struck out 10 Statesmen in just five innings, while allowing two hits with no walks.
- GAME TWO:Â With the 6-5 loss in game two, the Statesmen are now 5-9 in one run contests.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE- With the 2-0 loss in game one, the Statesmen were shutout for the second time this season. The last time DSU failed to score was in a 1-0 setback at Nova Southeastern on Feb. 7.
- The setback saw the Statesmen lose their first game of the season that was decided by two runs. Â
- The Statesmen grounded into three double plays in game one. UWF doubled up DSU in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings.
- DSU dropped its first GSC series since dropping a pair of games at Valdosta State on March 1.
- Landon Thibodeaux had hits in both games, extending his hitting-streak to 10 games. He has now reached base in 19 straight contests.
- Brandon Cummins, who went 3-for-5, has now recorded multiple hits in 22 contests.

UP NEXTÂ The Statesmen open the Gulf South Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed on Saturday, May 2. DSU will face the No. 1 seed, which will be the winner of the series between Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama. The host institution will determine the start time.
