VALDOSTA, Georgia – Hillary Carpenter limited Delta State University (26-23) to one hit to lead No.14 North Alabama to an 8-0 win in the first round of the 2015 Gulf South Conference Softball Tournament on Friday at Steel's Diamond-Blazer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED- Both teams had early scoring chances. North Alabama put two runners on with one out in the first only to see DSU starter Shayna Beaver get a strikeout and a ground out to end the inning. Kory Watterson was hit by a pitch with one out and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kassidy Tally before a ground out ended the inning.
- The Lions struck for three runs in the bottom of the third. Courtney Shields doubled with one out and scored on a Libby Olinger single to take a 1-0 lead. Regan Tittle followed up the Olinger single with a home run to centerfield to give UNA 3-0 lead.
- Cory Grace Shields extended the North Alabama lead to 4-0 on a leadoff solo home run to right center field.
- North Alabama ended the game with a four-run fifth. Brittany Gillson had an RBI-double followed by an RBI-double from Medeline Lee and a two-run double by pinch-hitter Avery Goodwin.
- Hillary Carpenter (18-4) tossed a one-hitter with two strikeouts in five innings of work to earn the win for North Alabama.
- Shayna Beaver (10-7) allowed three runs on five hits with a walk and one strikeout as the pitcher of record for the Lady Statesmen.
STAT OF THE DAY- Delta State went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position, while North Alabama went 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE- The Lady Statesmen were limited to one hit for the second time this season, dating to game one of a GSC series against Union University (3.15.15).
- North Alabama is the fourth ranked opponent that Delta State has faced this year. The Lady Statesmen are 0-8 against ranked opponents in 2015.
- DSU been out-hit by opponents in seven of its last eight games.
