HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Statesmen put runners in scoring position in the second, fifth, and sixth innings. Mariah Alverez walked and moved into scoring position on a fielding error before DSU lined into a double play to end the second. Kassidy Tally singled and after stealing second was thrown out trying to take third in the fifth. Taylor Holland singled with one out in the sixth before a pair of fly outs ended the frame.
  • Union had six runners in scoring position through the first eight innings, going 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Lady Bulldogs had runners at second and third in the top of the first and fourth innings. DSU starter Shayna Beaver recorded a strikeout and two pop outs to end the first and a flyout to close the fourth.
  • Jessie Rodriguez singled to start the eighth inning and moved to second on a Memrie Corley sacrifice bunt. Rodriguez advanced to second when Taylor Holland was hit by a pitch. Amber Adcock's single to left appeared to be the game-winning RBI, but Rodriguez was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second. Holland and Adcock moved to second and third on the throw home to set up Kaitlin Moore's RBI-single to end the game in walk off fashion.
