HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • Kory Watterson got Delta State on the board early in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly to right center field that scored Taylor Holland, giving DSU the 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the third, UM's Jessica Mentzer tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single.
  • Kassidy Tally's double down the left field line got things started in the top of the fourth. Kara Lane Nowell reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Tally. The Lady Statesmen regained the lead 2-1.
  • A big four-run fourth inning by DSU was started with Amber Adcock's double to left center field, scoring Andrea Cutts. Watterson and Tally each singled, while Mariah Alvarez doubled to give Delta State the 6-1 advantage.
  • Montevallo's Sydney Abounassar notched the score at 6-2 with one swing of the bat, homering to left field, but the deficit was too much for the Falcons to overcome as Delta State took the 6-2 victory.
  • Freshman Shayna Beaver (7-5) pitched her fifth complete game of the season, giving up two earned runs on six hits.
  • Tally led the offense going a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate. Holland and Adcock each added two hits.

Game 2
  • Senior Brook Cline jump-started the scoring rally in the top of the first for the Lady Statesmen. Cline hit a bases-clearing double to left field that scored Adcock and Holland. Later in the inning, Tally doubled to left center field and Madison Zoeller hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two more runs and putting the lead in DSU's possession 4-0.
  • Delta State tacked on three more runs in the top of the second. Adcock and Alvarez reached on fielding errors to score two runs, while Watterson's single to left field scored Adcock and gave the Green-and-White the commanding 7-0 lead.
  • Alvarez knocked in another run in the top of the fourth on a solo shot to put DSU up 8-0.
  • UM's Phoebe Dabbour sent a two-run blast to left field that put the Falcons on the board, 8-2, in the bottom of the fifth.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Lady Statesmen plated four runs to take the 12-2 advantage. Zoeller used disciplined hitting at the plate to draw a walk with the bases loaded, bringing in Ellen Tarrant. Ashley Mrozinski singled up the middle to score Katelyn Westbrook and Alvarez, while Cutts' sacrifice fly scored Zoeller.
  • Four Falcons came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but could not plate a run, as they fell to Delta State by a final 12-2.
