LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The No. 1 seed University of West Alabama (37-9) exploded for a seven-run fourth inning in a 10-4 victory over the No. 6 seed Delta State University (22-17) baseball team at the Gulf South Conference Baseball Tournament on Saturday at Tartt Field.

Instagram @DSUAthletics HOW IT HAPPENED - The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, using a leadoff double by Parker Madden, who later scored on a wild pitch.
- A two-run home run by Trent Giambrone in the top of the second gave the Statesmen their first lead of the day.
- After UWA tied the score at two in the bottom of the third, Matt Barrett gave the Statesmen a 3-2 lead in the fourth on an RBI single to left field.
- West Alabama responded in the bottom of the frame, sending 10 batters to the plate, exploding for seven runs on six hits, while capitalizing on two DSU errors. Five of the seven UWA runs were unearned.
- In the fifth, Tanner Rainey, who ranks second in the GSC in home runs, hit his 14th long ball of the season to extend the UWA lead to 10-3.
- Drew Milligan (3-3) allowed nine runs, four earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 3.1 innings. Witt Haggard (4), Trevor Blocker (1) and Justin Vincent (1) combined to allow six hits in relief. Blocker finished with three strikeouts in two innings of work.
- The Tigers' starting pitcher Jorge Cruz allowed three runs, two earned on two hits. Josh Jones (4-1) allowed one hit in three innings of relief. Brock Ward, who allowed one run after loading the bases with no outs in the eighth, worked one inning.
STAT OF THE GAME - West Alabama's seven runs scored in the fourth inning tied the most that the Statesmen have allowed during a single frame this season. West Georgia also pushed across seven in the top of the third in a 13-12 DSU victory on March 29.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE - The Statesmen finished with four hits, tying their lowest output of the season. DSU was held to four hits in a 4-3 victory over West Alabama on Feb. 15 and also in a 3-2 victory at Alabama Huntsville on March 21.
- With a pair of walks, Landon Thibodeaux has now reached base in 21 straight contests.
UP NEXT The Statesmen face Valdosta State in an elimination game on Sunday at noon. VSU lost in the first game of the tournament to the University of Alabama Huntsville 6-4. The Blazers swept a doubleheader from the Statesmen (11-6, 4-3) on March 1.
