Box Score JACKSON, Tennessee – Despite a comeback effort during the second half, the Delta State University men's basketball team dropped its third straight game in a 51-48 loss to Union University on Thursday at Fred DeLay Gym.

How It Happened- The Bulldogs struck first with a 3-pointer less than a minute into the game, taking an early lead.
- Devin Schmidt finally got Delta State's offense going with a layup at the 18:37 minute mark during the first half, making the score 3-2.
- Union went on a 10-3 run, extending the lead out to 13-6.
- Delta State countered with a 9-2 run capped by two free throws from James Kilpatrick to tie the game, 15-15, at the 7:57 mark. Both teams tied twice more, before Union finally pulled ahead with a jumper by Brock Marterrace with 4:51 minutes remaining in the first half.
- Delta State managed to cut the lead to 26-21 at the end of the first half.
- At the start of the second half, Union's Ashanti Day scored four straight points to give Union its largest lead of the night 29-21.
- Brett Warner ignited the offense with a layup at the 17:04 mark, giving Delta State its first points of the half. Schmidt followed with a 3-pointer and layup, cutting the lead to 29-28 at 14:38.
- The Statesmen continued its comeback, taking a 30-29 lead at the 14:20 mark after a Kilpatrick layup.
- Both teams then battled back and forth to retake the lead with the second half featuring four ties. Eventually, Union brokethrough and clinched the lead 45-44 at the 5:12 mark. The Bulldogs finished out the game on a 6-1 run to edge the Statesmen 51-48.
Notables- Two Statesmen scored in double digits. Schmidt led the team with 16 points, followed by freshman Brett Warner, who had 15.
- The score was tied seven times during the game.
- Delta State shot 37 percent from the field, 36 percent (4-11) from long range and 75 percent (12-16) from the free throw line.
- For the first time since Jan. 29, 2015 the Green and White have lost three striaght contests.
