Statesmen Snap Offensive Snag with 69-39 win at CBU

MEMPHIS, Tennessee Delta State University snapped a three-game losing streak with a 69-39 win over Christian Brothers on Saturday, shooting 48.9 percent on 23-of-47 from the field.

    How It Happened
  • After struggling offensively in its last three contests, Delta State came out firing, taking an early 10-0 lead at the 14:25 mark.
  • Christian Brothers answered with a run of its own, decreasing the deficit to five, 11-6, with 10:49 to play in the half on a Jordan Miller jumper.
  • Each team traded baskets to close out first-half action, but the Statesmen took the 29-21 advantage into the locker room at the break.
  • DSU used another significant run, this time outscoring the Bucs 12-4, capped by a Zelvin Smith 3-pointer, extending its lead to 41-25 at the 14:39 mark after halftime.
  • The Statesmen continued their dominance down the home stretch, outscoring the Bucs 19-6 in the last 10 minutes. DSU went on to win 69-39.
  • PJ Davis' free-throw 10 seconds into the contest gave Delta State the lead for good as the Statesmen led for 39:10 of the contest.

  • Devin Schmidt led all scorers with 24 points, matching his season average and recording his third double-double of the season with 10 boards, while PJ Davis chipped in 10 points.
  • Delta State snapped a three-game losing streak and an offensive lag. After shooting 34.0 percent (55-of-163) in their last three games combined, the Statesmen shot 48.9 percent (23-of-47), their best output in that category since shooting 51.6 percent against North Alabama on Jan. 2.
  • All but one Statesmen that saw playing time made their way on the box score with at least one point.
  • Schmidt eclipsed 1,600 career points to put him with 1,619 and remains third on the all-time scoring list at Delta State.
  • Head coach Jim Boone needs four wins to reach 500 career victories.
