Rhodes Leads Lady Statesmen Past UAH

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Chelsey Rhodes scored 22 points to lead Delta State University (10-1. 7-1 GSC) to a 57-46 win over Alabama Huntsville (7-5, 4-4 GSC) at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum on Monday.

How It Happened
  • Trailing 1-0, the Lady Statesmen went on an 8-0 run to take an 8-1 lead after a Becca Ruckes jumper in the lane with 5:16 remaining in the first quarter.
  • An Aspriona Gilbert 3-point play with 14 seconds to go gave DSU an 18-11 lead heading to the second quarter.
  • The Lady Statesmen extended the 3-0 run into an 8-0 run in the second quarter to take its largest lead, 24-11, on a Rhodes free throw.
  • UAH's Josi Saunders made a 3-pointer, cutting the deficit to 26-17 at the 2:49 mark.
  • Ruckes made two free throws with 1:50 left to give DSU a 30-18 advantage, while a pair of Josi Saunders free throws closed the gap to 30-10 at halftime.
  • The Lady Statesmen went 9-of-15 from the charity stripe and 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) from the floor in the first half.
