Statesmen Suffer 5-0 Defeat to West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Delta State men's soccer team suffered its third consecutive loss to the University of West Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Tiger Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AJ Williams opened scoring for the Tigers taking a penalty kick in the fourth minute.
  • Less than two minutes later, Harrison Roberts added to the lead from a 28-yard strike to the top left corner, assisted by Liam Ireland.
  • In the 81st minute, Liam Ireland extended the Tigers lead to 3-0 with an assist from Quentin Le Cornet.
  • Over a minute later, Alvaro Macias would find the back of the net from a 27-yard free kick that hit off the crossbar and went in.
  • Clay Green scored the Tigers fifth and final goal of the game in the 86th minute with the assist from Oreva Amata.
  • In goal for the Statesmen, Matthew Klinck faced 19 shots, made four saves and allowed five goals.
  • Tigers keeper, Brad Louis, earned his first shutout of the season and made five saves.
 
STAT OF THE GAME:
  • The Tigers outshot the Statesmen 11-6 in the first half, and 8-4 in the second half.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This marks the third straight conference loss for the Statesmen.
  • The 5-0 loss to UWA is the worst in series history since it started in 2012.
  • This is the third match where the Tigers have score five or more goals this season.
  • Ricardo Filho leads the Statesmen in shots (13) and shots on goal (nine).
