Statesmen Suffer Overtime Defeat Against Shorter

ROME, Ga. – After a early second overtime goal, the Delta State University men's soccer team fell to Shorter University 1-0 on Friday night at Ben Brady Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Brock Hollier opened the match taking a shot, but Austen Trevers was on the receiving end.
  • Darwin Lom of Shorter took the majority of shots in first half with three.
  • Shorter led in chances in the first half 10-3 and 7-3 on shots on goal.
  • Antonio Santarsiero was the first to take a chance in the second half but Jacob Hauenstein made the save.
  • Peyton Marter, Andrew Aur and Myron Duffy all had chances in the second half.
  • For Shorter, Lom, Santarsiero and King took chances in the second half.
  • In the first overtime, Sebastian Knabke and Zachary Breaux had a chance apiece for the Statesmen. Lom took the only chance for the period.
  • Mauricio Rancel broke the scoring ice early in the second overtime in the 102nd minute from a Richard Coomer assist.
  • Jacob Hauenstein made his fifth start in goal for Delta State, and saved nine shots, allowing the only goal.
  • In goal for the Hawks, Austen Trevers made his 12th start and made 11 saves..

  • Hauenstein made a season high of nine saves in the match.

  • This marks the sixth meeting between DSU and Shorter since the series started in 2012.
