Lady Statesmen Fall 2-0 to Lee University

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Delta State women's soccer team wrapped up its final GSC road trip of the season with a 2-0 loss to Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., on Oct. 23.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Delta State held Lee scoreless throughout the first half.
  • The Lady Flames had the edge on shots (eight) and corners (five), but both teams ended the first half equal in shots on goal.   
  • In the 65th minute, the Lady Flames surged ahead when McKenzie Bricker scored her fourth goal of the season to break the scoreless drought and give Lee a 1-0 lead.
  • With 22 seconds left in the game, Lauren Peters scored Lee's second and final goal of the match off an assist by Mia Hollingsworth to seal the win.
  • Bricker, Peters, and Summer Lanter led Lee's offence. Bricker and Peters scored both of Lee's goals, while all three players recorded a combined nine shots and three shots on goal.  
  • Catherine Thomson, Sam Naughton, Lakyn Cryder, Maggie Amos, and Katie Swaine each had a shot on goal for led Delta State.  
  • Emily Oldacre faced 19 shots and five shots on goal from the Lady Flames. She conceded two goals, but made two saves.
 
STAT OF THE GAME:
  • All five shots the Lady Statesmen had were on goal.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Thomson leads the Lady Statesmen in shots and shots on goal.
  • Emily Oldacre ranks sixth in the GSC in saves per game averaging 4.58.
  • The win was the fourth consecutive conference win for the Lady Flames.
  • Despite the loss, Delta State's scoring offense is fourth in the Gulf South Conference.
  • The Lady Statesmen are fourth in the conference in assists per game averaging 1.667.
  • Delta State is fourth in the GSC in points per game with 5.67.
  • The Lady Statesmen are fourth in the league in most goals scored with 30.
 
 
UP NEXT: The Lady Statesmen will host Spring Hill College on Thursday, Oct. 27, at Delta Field for another GSC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
