Lady Statesmen Fall to No. 17 Argos in Season Finale

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss in the 2016 season finale to the No. 17 University of West Florida Argonauts on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Delta Field. Prior to the start of the match, Delta State honored its 10 seniors during Senior Day festivities.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Lady Statesmen held the Argonauts scoreless until the 19th minute.
  • Emily Vogler chested the ball into the goal off a corner kick in the 19th minute to give UWF a 1-0 lead.  
  • Kaljit Atwal scored the Argonauts' second goal in 35th minute off an assist by Marjorie Boilesen.
  • Alisa Festagallo fed Boilesen a ball up the middle, and Boileson's shot to the right corner of the goal was good, giving the Argos their third goal of the game in the 39th minute.
  • Kailey Ward scored the Argos' fourth and final goal of the game in the 48th minute.
  • Katie Swaine recorded DSU's lone shot on goal, while Sam Naughton and Tabitha Hayden accounted for the rest of Delta State's shots.
  • Emily Oldacre faced 24 shots, including 8 shots on goal, and made four saves.
  • UWF starting keeper, Katelyn Burkhart, faced only three shots from Delta State.

  • The Argonauts outshot the Lady Statesmen 24-4 and had the edge (15-0) on corners.

  • The Lady Statesmen are fifth in the league in assists per game averaging 1.588 per contest.
  • DSU ranks fifth in the GSC in points per game with 5.35.
  • DSU's 32 goals on the season are the third most in program history and rank sixth in the GSC.
