CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's soccer team claimed the win with the only goal of the match against Ouachita Baptist University on Friday, Oct. 7, at Delta Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Statesmen scored the only goal in the match in the 35th minute when Pedro Ariza struck the loose ball inside the box from a free kick on his right foot.
  • Brock Hollier led the offense shooting a season high of five shots with only one on goal. Ricardo Filho was close behind with four shots (one on goal), and Nicolas Garrido shot three times, with one on goal.
  • Delta State outshot Ouachita Baptist 9-5 in the first half and 9-5 in the second half.
  • Jacob Hauenstein made his first start of this season for Delta State and earned a shutout, making six saves.
  • In goal for the Tigers, Nelson Pacheco made his 11th start, allowed one goal and made three saves.
 
STAT OF THE GAME:
  • Hauenstein recorded a season high of six saves for the Statesmen.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS:
  • This marks the 15th meeting between DSU and OBU since the series started in 2004.
  • The win breaks a four-game losing streak.
  • This is the second shutout of the season for the Statesmen. The first came in September, when the Statesmen defeated Auburn University at Montgomery 5-0.
