MONTICELLO, Arkansas - The Delta State University men's basketball team is scheduled to hit the road for a non-conference matchup against the University of Arkansas at Monticello on Sunday, Nov. 27 at Steelman Fieldhouse.
DSU and UAM have met 84 times in the past with the Statesmen owning a 61-23 advantage over the Weevils. Last year, Delta State defeated Arkansas-Monticello 76-63 at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
Delta State opened its home schedule against LeMoyne-Owen College on Nov. 22, where the Statesmen defeated the Magicians, 89-61.
At the beginning of the season, Delta State closed out the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Classic with a pair of wins against Florida Southern College and Eckerd College.
Devin Schmidt, a senior guard out of Seviereville, Tenn., was selected to the Preseason All-GSC for the third consecutive season. He became DSU's all-time leading scorer, and named All-American, South Region Player of the Year and GSC Player of the Year, after averaging 25.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season. He was also named Preseason Player of the Year by Division II Bulletin.
Schmidt has scored 1,955 career points (20.6 ppg), is 45.1 percent (658-of-1460) from the floor and 37.8 percent from three-point range (235-of-621). He needs 614 points to become the GSC's all-time leading scorer.
The newcomers have adjusted quickly and are making an impact on the floor. Among those,
Cedric Harper is averaging 11 points and leading the team in rebounds with 9.3 boards per game.
Up next, the Green-and-White open up conference play as they travel to rival Mississippi College on Thursday, Dec. 1 at A.E. Wood Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
