DSU and MC have met 89 times in the past with the Statesmen owning a 52-36-1 advantage over the Choctaws. Last year, Mississippi College defeated Delta State 71-66 at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Statesmen, then, return home to face NAIA opponent Central Baptist College on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
Devin Schmidt, a senior guard out of Seviereville, Tenn., was selected to the Preseason All-GSC for the third consecutive season. He became DSU's all-time leading scorer, and named All-American, South Region Player of the Year and GSC Player of the Year, after averaging 25.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season. He was also named Preseason Player of the Year by Division II Bulletin.
Schmidt has scored 1,971 career points (20.5 ppg), is 44.7 percent (662-of-1480) from the floor and 37.7 percent from three-point range (237-of-628). He needs 598 points to become the GSC's all-time leading scorer.
The newcomers have adjusted quickly and are making an impact on the floor. Among those,
Cedric Harper is averaging 11 points and leading the team in rebounds with 8.5 boards per game.
Up next, the Green-and-White host undefeated Bethel University on Thursday, Dec. 8 at Walter Sillers Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
