CLEVELAND, Mississippi - After splitting a pair of close games on the road before the holiday break, the Delta State University men's basketball team will continue Gulf South Conference play as it hosts Union University before traveling to Christian Brothers University this weekend.

Delta State vs. Union / at CBU |
Delta State University men's basketball team improved to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play before the holiday break.
The series with Union started in 1933 with Delta State taking the inaugural 29-27 win in Cleveland. Saturday's matchup is the 51st meeting
all-time. Last season, DSU split the series with Union, winning at home but fell on the road.
CBU's matchup on Monday marks the 94th meeting between the two schools. The first meeting occurred on Jan. 15, 1957 and saw Delta State win 79-61 in Memphis. Last season, DSU swept the series with CBU winning at home and on the road.
Senior guard
Devin Schmidt was selected to the Preseason All-GSC for the third consecutive season. He became DSU's all-time leading scorer, and named All-American, South Region Player of the Year and GSC Player of the Year, after averaging 25.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season. He was also named Preseason Player of the Year by Division II Bulletin.
Schmidt has scored 2,078 career points (20.6 ppg), is 44 percent (697-of-1583) from the floor and 37 percent from three-point range (250-of-
675). He needs 491 points to become the GSC's all-time leading scorer.
The newcomers have adjusted quickly and are making an impact on the floor. Among those,
Cedric Harper is averaging 6.4 points and 6.6
boards per game.
