TIP-OFF
The two-game road swing with the Chargers and Lions could determine which teams will host the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Super Tuesday (3.1.16). Delta State is in a four-way tie for second place with Union, West Georgia and North Alabama.

Alabama Huntsville stands alone at the top of the GSC standings. Delta State handed the Chargers an 82-74 loss in overtime at Walter Sillers on Jan. 4. Seab Webster led four Chargers in double figures with 18 points. Devin Schmidt had a game-high 36 points, while Jack Madgen added 17 and PJ Davis and Zelvin Smith chipped in 11 apiece. UAH has only lost to North Alabama (1.16.16) following the loss in Cleveland.

DSU picked up the 97-74 win at home against North Alabama on Jan. 2. Four Lions recorded double-figure nights with Dimarrio Jackson leading the way with 19. Schmidt led both teams and four Statesmen in double figures with 32 points. Smith had 18 points, while Davis and James Kilpatrick added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Schmidt, a 6-foot-4 junior, was named the GSC Player of the Week after averaging 25.5 points per game last week and for his career-high 37 points against Valdosta. He is now the record holder at DSU for 3-pointers made (196) and attempted (493). The Sevierville, Tennessee, native currently ranks third on the all-time scoring list at DSU with 1,670 career points. He needs 130 points to reach 1,800 and become the new leader.

With a sweep of the Chargers and Lions, Head Coach Jim Boone could pick up his 500th career win.

The Green-and-White maintain the top spot in a majority of the defensive categories in the league: scoring defense (65.1 ppg), field goal percentage defense (40.0%), rebounding offense (40.1 rpg) and rebounding defense (31.9 rpg).
