CLINTON, Miss. – Chelsey Rhodes scored 28 points to lead Delta State University (19-6, 16-6 GSC) to a 64-42 win over instate rival Mississippi College (5-20, 3-19 GSC) on Thursday at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

How It Happened
  • Mississippi College led 5-2 early after a Shaniqua Love 3-point play just under two minutes into the contest.
  • Delta State used a 10-1 run to build an 8-6 lead following a Chelsey Rhodes jumper from the right side with 3:14 remaining.
  • Overall the Lady Statesmen outscored MC 16-2 to close the first quarter with a 16-7 lead.
  • A 16-3 start to the second quarter helped the Lady Statesmen take a 32-10 on two Aspriona Gilbert free throws with 1:33 to go before half.
  • DSU held MC without a field goal from the 8:47 mark in the first quarter until 7:20 in the second (11:27).
  • Rhodes connected on a long 3-pointer in the final seconds of the second quarter to give the Lady Statesmen a 35-12 halftime advantage.
  • Rhodes (11) and Kaelin Kneeland (4) combined for 15 points in the third quarter as the Lady Statesmen carried a 48-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • The Choctaws cut the deficit to 54-35 with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter but never climbed any closer the rest of the way.

  • The five points scored by the Choctaws in the second quarter was the fewest points allowed in a quarter since holding Shorter to four points on Feb. 18, 2016.
  • The Choctaws seven first quarter points and five second quarter points marked the 21st and 22nd time the Lady Statesmen held an opponent to single digits in a quarter this season. 
  • The Lady Statesmen 54 percent from the field was the best shooting percentage since shooting 58 percent at Christian Brothers (1.30.16).
  • Rhodes' 28 points increased her career points to 1,701 points, ranking sixth on the DSU's all-time scoring list.
  • Rhodes made 4-of-10 3-pointers and is 197-of-593 for her career from long range, second in both categories.
  • Rhodes 19 field goal attempts were the most for the senior since attempting 23 against Valdosta State (2.6.16) and her 10 3-point attempts are her third most this season.
  • Mary Carol Davis and Kneeland followed Rhodes with eight points.
  • Gilbert and Anissa Jackson collected a team-high six rebounds.
  • Kristen Sampson scored 20 points and Toni Woods had eight rebounds to lead the Choctaws.
  • The Lady Statesmen captured their third straight win in the series and improved to 22-4 all-time at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
  • Head coach Craig Roden claimed his 534th career win and his 38th win at Delta State.
