Statesmen Earn 5-1 Win Over William Carey

BILOXI, Miss. – Trent Giambrone and Brandon Cummins combined for five hits and four RBIs to lead Delta State University (12-7, 6-3 GSC) to a 5-1 win over William Carey College (15-6) on Wednesday at MGM Park. Giambrone went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs while Cummins 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Statesmen.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Statesmen scored two runs in the first and one in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Trent Giambrone singled home Brandon Cummins and later scored on a Jacob Swiney sac-fly in the first. Cummins singled and scored on a Giambrone triple to highlight the second.
  • Delta State added two runs in the seventh. A Cummins single to right got by the right fielder, allowing Erick Santiago and Kyle St. Pierre to score from first and second.
  • William Carey pushed its only run of the night across in the bottom of the seventh when Tyler Odom scored on an Adrian Brown RBI single.
  • William Carey loaded the bases in the ninth with one out but Statesmen closer Jacob Howell got a pop up to second and a strikeout to close the game.
