CLEVELAND, Miss. – Valdosta State University pounded out 13 hits in an 11-3 victory over the Delta State University softball team on Sunday at University Field. The result marked the sixth straight setback for the Green-and-White.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The visitors opened the scoring in the top of the first, when Brandy Morgan delivered a two-out solo home run to left center field.
- VSU plated three more runs in the second when it took advantage of a dropped fly ball and followed it with a two-RBI single by Danielle Patterson.
- Kara Lane Nowell made the score 4-1 in the third when she hit her second home run of the season.
- The Blazers responded with five runs in the fourth on a double by Patterson, an RBI single by Kiley Rusen and a three-run home run by Heather Robinson.
- Carah Nunez gave DSU its final two runs of the contest in the bottom of the inning when she smacked her fifth home run of the season, scoring Madison Zoeller.
- VSU finished the scoring in the seventh on a two-run pinch-hit home run by Kelly Gordon.
- Caitlyn Calhoun (26-4) allowed three runs on five hits in seven innings. She struck out five and walked one.Â
- DSU starter Katie Justice (8-4) surrendered nine runs, seven earned, on nine hits in four innings. Taylor Tucker allowed two runs on four hits in three innings of relief.
- No DSU player recorded multiple hits.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- With their two home runs, the Lady Statesmen have 30 for the season. It marks the highest total since hitting the same amount in 2009.
- DSU surrendered 31 hits in the three-game series.
- The six straight loses for DSU are the most since dropping nine straight early in the 2015 season. Â
- DSU has allowed six or more runs in four of its last six contests.
