CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Statesmen tied the school record for most goals in a single game with an 11-1 victory over Alcorn State for the first home game of the season on Sept. 13, at Delta Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Catherine Thomson got the offense going for the Lady Statesmen scoring Delta State's first goal of the game in less than three minutes.
- Alcorn State leveled the score when Rita Okoro scored on an assist by Comfort Agyei in the 12th minute.
- Thomson fired a shot through the left off a cross by Taylor Guess to score her second goal of the game and give Delta State back the lead in the 14th minute.
- Guess scored her first goal of the season off an assist by Thomson to make give the Lady Statesmen a 3-1 lead in the 31st minute.
- Thomson's hat-trick in the 35th minute accounted for Delta State's fifth goal.
- Just before halftime, Tabitha Hayden scored on an assist by Thomson to make the score 6-1.
- The Lady Statesmen continued to control the offensive pace during the start of the second half when Guess followed with her second goal of the game off an assist by Lakyn Cryder in the 50th minute.
- About five minutes later, Sam Naughton scored off an assist by Katie Swaine.
- Rebecca Deegan then scored on a penalty kick in 61st minute.
- Back-to-back goals by Ali Sullivan made it 10-1 in favor of Delta State.
- Swaine sealed the win, scoring Delta State's final goal of the game in the 88th minute.
- Ella Hunkin conceded only one goal in her first start in goal for Delta State. She made four saves, facing 18 shots—five of which were on goal.
- In goal for the Lady Braves, Giselle Rojas conceded 11 goals, made three saves and faced 27 shots—14 of which were on goal.
STAT OF THE GAME:
- The 11 goals tied the school record for most goals scored in a game. The last time the Lady Statesmen scored 11 goals was the first meeting between Alcorn State in 2004, where DSU won 11-0.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS:
- The Lady Statesmen are now 3-1 on the season—the best start since 2009.
- The 11-1 win is the highest scoring game of the season.
- The last time the Lady Statesmen scored in double digits was in 2008, when the Lady Statesmen scored 10 goals against Robrt Morris-LC.
- The Lady Statesmen improve to 5-8 overall in home openers.
- Hunkin recorded her first win in goal for the Lady Statesmen.
- Deegan is the second Lady Statesman to score her first goal of the season off a penalty kick.
- Thomson is the first Lady Statesman to score a hat-trick on the season. She tied former Lady Statesmen Bridget Duke and Shannon Brown for the record for most goals scored during a game with three.
- Thomson and Swaine are tied for the team lead in goals with four apiece, followed by Hayden (three), Naughton (three), Sullivan (three), Guess (two), Deegan (one), Traci Monroe (one), Zoe Scruggs (one), and Taylor Schofield (one).
- Anoucke Baas, Thomson and Guess all had two assists and tied the second place record for most assists during a game.
- Swaine and Baas now move into second place for most assists in a season with four apiece.
