CLINTON, Miss. – The Delta State men's soccer team fell 5-0 against in-state rival Mississippi College on Sept. 18, in Clinton, Miss., for the first Gulf South Conference match of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the third minute, a penalty kick was awarded to Mississippi College, Goalkeeper Humberto Pelaez capitalized from the spot making it 1-0.
- The Choctaws found back of the net again when Jorge Delgado scored in the 12th minute, assisted by Dinho Zwane.
- Delgado extended the lead to 3-0 in the 22nd minute with an assist from Jacob Farthing.
- In the 48th minute, Haracio Gutierrez Jr. scored off a header from a Julio Moreno cross to increase the Choctaws lead to 4-0.
- Delgado completed his hat trick, scoring from the penalty spot capping the Choctaws final goal in the 82nd minute making it 5-0.
STAT OF THE GAME:
- The Statesmen only shot three times in the first half and six times in the second half.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS:
- This marks the ninth meeting between DSU and Mississippi College since the series started in 2004.
- The Statesmen won their conference opener last season when they defeated Mississippi College 3-1.
- Freshman Matthew Klinck received his first appearance of the season in goal coming on in the second half making four saves.
