CLEVELAND, Mississippi - After closing out the weekend with a pair of important conference wins against West Georgia and West Alabama, the Delta State University men's basketball team set to host North Alabama and Alabama Huntsville in a Thursday-Saturday matchup to close out the four game home stand.

- Delta State University men's basketball team improved to 10-3 on the season and 5-2 in the Gulf South Conference after securing a pair of wins over the weekend against West Georgia and West Alabama.
- This week, DSU will continue its home stand against a tough opponent in the University of North Alabama on Thursday, Jan.12. The Green-and-White will then face No. 21 Alabama Huntsville on Saturday, Jan. 14.
- UNA's matchup on Thursday marks the 87th meeting, with Delta State holding a slim 44-42 overall record against the Lions.The first meeting occurred on Dec. 9, 1949 and saw the Statesmen win 61-49 at home. Last season, DSU split the series with UNA winning at home, but falling on the road in overtime. The two met at the GSC Tournament where DSU defeated the Lions 90-59 in Florence to move on to the semifinals.
- The series with Alabama Huntsville started in 1983 with Delta State taking the inaugural 76-63 win in Cleveland. Saturday's matchup is the 33rd meeting all-time. Last season, the Statesmen beat the Chargers at home in overtime, but fell on the road. The two later met in the semifinals of the GSC Tournament where UAH claimed the 87-71 victory.
- As a team, the Statesmen average 74.8 points per game, which ranks ninth in the league. On the defensive side of the ball, Delta State rank second in the GSC holding its opponents to an average 67 points per game and 28th in Division II.
- Senior guard Devin Schmidt is averaging 23.1 points per game which ranks second in the league and 4.7 assists per game to rank third. Schmidt has scored 2,173 career points (20.7 ppg), is 43.5 percent (725-of-1666) from the floor and 36.5 percent from three-point range (259-of-709). He needs 396 points to become the GSC's all-time leading scorer.
- The newcomers are making an impact on the floor. Among those, Cedric Harper is averaging 5.6 points and 5.2 boards per game. Harper ranks sixth in the league averaging 1.5 blocked shots per game.
