CLINTON, Miss. - Mississippi College used a 78th minute goal to take a late lead at home against the Delta State University men's soccer team, and ultimately held on for a 2-1 win in Gulf South Conference action at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams remained scoreless until the 21st minute, when Victor Bazan tallied his fourth goal of the season off assists by Jacob Farthing and Horacio Gutierrez Jr. to give the home team a 1-0 lead.Â
- The score would hold at 1-0 into intermission, with the Statesmen fending off a late flurry of shots by the Choctaws to end the half.Â
- The Statesmen responded out of the locker room, as a throw in saw Myron Duffy score his first goal of the season in the 46th minute, after Jordan Whitchurch threw the ball in it was headed by Ash Walker toward Duffy who sent it into the back of the net with his head to tie the match.Â
- The next half hour was played without a goal, until Dominic Snee's first tally of the season gave the Choctaws a lead in the 79th minute. Abel Perez was credited with the assist, and the Choctaws ultimately held on in the final minutes of the game to seal the victory.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS:
- Delta State has been held scoreless in the first half in its last 12 games.
- Whitchurch and Walker each tallied their first assist of the campaign.
- Myron Duffy's first goal of the season ended a streak of five consecutive scoreless games for the Statesmen.

The Statesmen return home for a pair of Gulf South Conference games against Auburn University Montgomery and the University of Montevallo. The Statesmen and AUM face off at Delta Field on Friday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m., and DSU then hosts Montevallo on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.
