Statesmen Fall to Montevallo in Final GSC Contest

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The University of Montevallo men's soccer team got a goal in the 2nd minute of play and never looked back en route to a 4-0 victory in Gulf South Conference action over the Delta State University men's soccer team on a damp Sunday afternoon at Delta Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Montevallo Falcons got on the board in the opening minutes of the game, as a goal from Lukas Hauer (his sixth of the season) gave the visitors the lead in the 2nd minute.
  • The two sides would play a scoreless first half from that point on, as the score held 1-0 in favor of the Falcons.
  • Jordan Whitchurch was shown a red card in the closing seconds of the first half, forcing the Statesmen to play a man down the rest of the way.
  • Montevallo made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute, when Liam Moore scored his fourth of the season off of an assist by Joshua Keller.
  • The Falcons' leading goal scorer Cesare Marconi also got in on the scoring action, his seventh of the year, to make it 3-0 in the 79th minute.
  • Liam Moore added the final goal of the game less than a minute later, tallying his second of the contest and 5th of the season.

UP NEXT:

The Statesmen hit the road to close out the year with a pair of non-conference matchups against Southwest Baptist and Northeastern State. The Statesmen and Southwest Baptist University face off in Bolivar, Mo. at 7:30 p.m. Delta State then travels to Tahlequah, Okla. to take on Northeastern State University at 7 p.m.
