West Alabama Edges Delta State 2-0 at Delta Field

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The West Alabama men's soccer team scored two second half goals to defeat the Delta State University men's soccer team 2-0 in Gulf South Conference action on Friday afternoon at Delta Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The first goal of the game came in the 43rd minute, when Jean-Baptiste Meyniel collected his first of the season to put the visiting Tigers up 1-0 just before the halftime intermission.
  • Gaspard Voituriez-Donnelly tallied the first assist, his third of the campaign. 
  • UWA's second goal of the contest came in the 81st minute, as Harrison Roberts scored his second of the season off of an assist from Ali Brador, who sent a through ball into Roberts who was 1-on-1 with the keeper. The assist marked the third helper of the year for Brador. 
  • Statesmen goalkeeper William Francoletti made three saves in his collegiate debut, taking the loss for DSU.
  • Brad Louis collected his sixth win of the year in goal for the Tigers, improving to 6-2 on the season while making one save for the match.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS:

  • West Alabama's Jack Shiels and Kiaran Maule were each issued a caution, both coming in the second half. 
  • Delta State has been held scoreless in the first half in their last nine games, and have been held scoreless in three consecutive games.

UP NEXT:

After contests with West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville, the Statesmen travel to St. Charles, Mo. to play a midweek game against Lindenwood on Oct. 11 in non-conference action. The Statesmen then continue GSC play when the travel to Clinton, Miss. to take on Mississippi College on Oct. 15 at 3 p.m.
