North Alabama Uses Big Second Half to Top Lady Statesmen

FLORENCE, Ala. – The North Alabama women's soccer team poured in five goals in the second half to defeat the Delta State University women's soccer team 6-1 on Friday at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex in Florence.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • The Lions scored the opening goal of the game in the 33rd minute, as Shelby Wall's sixth goal of the season gave the home team a 1-0 lead. 
  • UNA outshot the Lady Statesmen 12-4 in the opening 45 minutes of play. 
  • Wall scored her second of the game in the 48th minute to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage.
  • Just over a minute late, UNA's Beatriz Fernandes scored her third goal of the season off of an assist by Kylie Huey on a corner kick to give the home team a 3-0 lead. 
  • Shelby Wall recorded a hat trick with a goal in the 65th minute, using an assist from Tay Cavett to score her eighth goal of the year and run the score to 4-0 in favor of the Lions.
  • Kylie Huey's seventh goal of the year (off of Cavett's second assist of the match) made it 5-0 for North Alabama.
  • Chelsie Hurren's 69th minute goal made it 5-1, as she scored her first of the season off of an assist from Lakyn Cryder. Cryder registered her third assist of the season in assisting Hurren.
  • Sara Litmanen scored her first goal of the season for UNA, assisted by Madeline Guillen, in the 78th minute to mark the final goal of the match for North Alabama.
