GAME NOTES: Statesmen, Bethel Set to Square Off

CLEVELAND, Miss - The Delta State University men's basketball team will close out non-conference action on Tuesday, Dec. 12 as they host National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics foe Bethel (Tenn.) University at Walter Sillers Coliseum for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

  • TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVE: Delta State University Athletics and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be collecting new, unwrapped toys as part of the annual Toys-For-Tots campaign. Special drop-off locations are just inside the main concourse at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

ABOUT DELTA STATE:

  • BRETT WARNER LEADS THE WAY: Brett Warner paces the Statesmen offense, averaging 15.8 points per game. The Collierville, Tenn. native has also added 2.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Warner is the leading three-point shooter for the Statesmen, knocking down 19 triples. Warner is shooting 34 percent from distance, and has added nearly an 81 percent clip from the foul line.
  • BENFORD DOING IT ALL: Junior transfer Armon Benford has done a little bit of everything for the Statesmen to this point in the season. The Chicago, Ill. native and South Suburban CC product is averaging 6.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.8 steals in 31.0 minutes per night running the show for the Green-and-White. 
  • DAVIS DEPENDABLE IN THE POST: Senior and hometown product PJ Davis has been a dependable scorer for the Statesmen in and around the paint for the Statesmen. Davis is averaging 13.3 points and a team-leading 6.7 rebounds per night. Davis has also hit (32) and taken (52) team-highs in free throws through the season's first nine games. 

ABOUT BETHEL UNIVERSITY:

  • ISAAC EDMONDSON PACES THE WILDCATS: 6-foot-5 junior Isaac Edmondson, a Dickson, Tenn. native, is scoring 21.0 points per game and clearing 6.2 rebounds per contest to lead the pack for Bethel. Edmondson is shooting 51 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point land and 81 percent from the free throw line. Edmondson is third in the NAIA in total scoring (273 points).
  • NAPPIER SECOND IN THE COUNTRY IN STEALS: Chase Nappier is second in the NAIA in total steals to this point in the year, collecting 30 thefts for the Purple and Gold. The junior guard from Antioch, Tenn. averages 11.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals. Nappier is also ranked 17th in the country in steals per game. 
  • BETHEL RANKED IN A HOST OF CATEGORIES: The Bethel Wildcats are ranked first in the NAIA in total steals with 129, and they are ranked third in offensive rebounds per game with 16.7. The Wildcats are ranked ninth in the NAIA in steals per game with 10.7 per night, and are ninth in three pointers with 105 through their first 13 games of the season.
