Edmondson, Bethel Slide Past Delta State 66-61

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Led by 30 points and eight rebounds from Isaac Edmonson, the Bethel University Wildcats outscored the Delta State University men's basketball team 28-15 over the final 12 minutes en route to a 66-61 win on Tuesday night at Walter Sillers Coliseum to close out non-conference action for the Green-and-White.

TURNING POINT:
 
  • With the Statesmen leading by eight with 11:36 left to play, Bethel used a 20-8 run to take a four-point lead, 58-54, with 3:48 to play, and closed the game outscoring the Green-and-White 28-15 in the final 12 minutes

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
 
  • Bethel shot 40 percent (25-for-63) from the floor and went just 5-for-20 (25 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Bethel added an 11-of-16 clip (69 percent) from the free throw line. 
  • Delta State shot 44 percent (24-for-55) from the field. The Statesmen struggled from three-point territory and the free throw line, shooting just 4-for-16 (25 percent) from three and 9-of-20 from the free throw line.
  • Both teams scored 34 points in the paint, and Delta State's bench outscored Bethel's 16-9 for the game. 
  • DSU outscored Bethel on points-off-turnovers 17-15 for the game, but Bethel got 14 second chance points to just nine for Delta State.
  • Bethel had 11 steals on the night, including three each from Edmondson and Bradley Walker.
INSIDE THE FLOW:
 
  • The first half saw the score tied four times, and the lead changed hands 13 times between the two schools. 
  • With the scored tied at 11, the Statesmen used a 9-2 run to grab a 21-13 lead, but the Wildcats would answer with a 9-0 run, including seven points from Isaac Edmondson, to snare the lead back 22-21. 
  • Both sides continued to trade baskets the rest of the half, and with Bethel leading 30-28, Cornelius McIntosh drilled a three-pointer with three seconds left in the half to give the Statesmen a 31-30 lead heading into the locker room. 
  • DSU got a Matthew Wilson three-pointer in the corner to build their lead to 46-38 with 11:36 to go in the second half as part of a 15-8 run, but the Wildcats answered the call again. 
  • Bethel responded with a 20-8 run to take a 58-54 advantage with 3:48 left to play in the game, outscored the Statesmen 28-15 in the final 11:36 of the contest to secure the win on the road. 

NOTABLES:
 
  • Bethel out-rebounded Delta State 41-38 for the contest, led by 10 rebounds from Noah Chatman. 
  • Cornelius McIntosh scored a career-high nine points, and Armon Benford also tallied a career-high in scoring with 11 points. Matthew Wilson also went for a career-high six points.
  • PJ Davis was the leading scorer for Delta State for the third consecutive game, totaling 19 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the year.
