CLEVELAND, Miss. - After an exciting weekend where
Brett Warner hit the game-winning three-pointer to lift the Statesmen over Shorter University for a crucial 82-81 win and extended the win streak to six games. This week, the Delta State University men's basketball team are set to hit the road for a contest against Union University on Feb. 16 at 8 p.m., then return home for the final regular season home game against Christian Brothers University on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m.

- The Statesmen improved to 18-6 on the season and stayed in the third spot in the GSC table with a 13-5 record. The Statesmen have already clinched a GSC Tournament berth along with Valdosta State, Alabama Huntsville, West Florida and Christian Brothers.
- As a team, the Statesmen average 75.9 points per game, which ranks eighth in the conference. On the defensive side of the ball, Delta State is holding its opponents to an average 69 points per game to rank second in the GSC and 33rd in Division II.
- Senior guard Devin Schmidt is averaging 22.9 points per game which ranks second in the league and 4.7 assists per game to rank second. Schmidt has scored 2,423 career points (20.9 ppg), is 43.3 percent (811-of-1875) from the floor and 36.4 percent from three-point range (289-of-794). He needs 147 points to become the GSC's all-time leading scorer. Schmidt needs 12 points to move into the third spot in the 2,000 Mississippi points club.
- Sophomore Brett Warner continues to be clutch for the Statesmen, averaging 12.5 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game. Warner has scored 29 points in the last two of three games.
- Union currently sit eighth in the GSC table with an 8-10 GSC record and are led by a quad of scoring leaders with freshman Tray Boyd averaging 15 points per game, Charlie Wilson (14.1 ppg), Jarad Scott (13.8 ppg) and Ashanti Day (11.2 ppg) all with double-digits this season. Earlier this season, the Statesmen fell at Fred DeLay Gymnasium by one point, 71-72. The Bulldogs are on a two-game losing streak, but boast an 8-5 record at home.
- Christian Brothers clinched a GSC Tournament berth and sit fifth in the table with a 11-7 record. The Bucs are led by a duo of scoring leaders in Adam Dieball (17.3 ppg) and Jeff Larkin (16.8 ppg). Earlier this season, Larkin scored 21 points in the 65-64 defeat of the Bucs, while the Statesmen contained Dieball to only seven points.
Up next, the Green-and-White round out the regular season on the road for a pair of conference matchups, with the first stop at West Alabama on Feb. 22 at 7:30, and then at West Georgia on Feb. 24 at 4 p.m.
