Valdosta State University outscored the Delta State University women's basketball team 21-9 in the second quarter and never looked back en route to a 66-41 Super Tuesday win over the Lady Statesmen in the quarterfinal round of the Gulf South Conference basketball tournament.

How It Happened:
- Valdosta State opened the game with four turnovers and missed their first two shots and Delta State missed their first seven shot attempts in the opening quarter, as neither team scored for the first 4:04 of the game.
- The Lady Blazers closed the quarter, however, on an 8-4 run to lead by four after one quarter.
- The Lady Statesmen cut the lead down to one point, at 12-11, with 6:42 to play in the second quarter on back-to-back Aspriona Gilbert layups and an Anissa Jackson jumper.
- VSU responded, however, as Aaliyah Cheatham hit three-pointers on the next three trips down the floor for the home team to take a 21-13 lead.
- A pair of Sonya Franklin free throws punctuated a 17-2 run (which included Cheatham's three three-pointers) to close the half and take a 29-13 lead into the locker room.
- Delta State shot 6-of-31 (19 percent) in the first half, and went 0-for-4 from the three-point range and knocked down one of their two free throw attempts. Valdosta State was 10-of-19 (53 percent) from the field, 3-of-6 from three (50%) and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
- Gilbert and Jackson each had four points in the first half, while Cheatham had nine and Madi Mitchell had eight for the Lady Blazers.
- After trading buckets to open the third quarter, the Lady Blazers used a 9-0 run that saw them seize a 42-17 lead over DSU.
- The Lady Statesmen got four points from Alondrea Rush and a jumper from Tori Mallory to close the third quarter, but VSU maintained the lead 49-25 heading into the final stanza of action.
- Gilbert got back-to-back buckets from inside the paint to open the final quarter, but that was as close as Delta State would get down 49-29.
- Madi Mitchell scored 11 points for the Lady Blazers in the fourth quarter to help Valdosta State close out DSU 66-41 to advance to the GSC semifinals at the Pete Hanna Center at Samford University in Birmingham Ala.
- Delta State went 18-of-58 (31 percent) from the field and went 1-for-10 (10 percent) from three-point territory. The Lady Statesmen went 4-for-6 (67 percent) from the free throw line. Valdosta State went 25-of-49 from the floor, including 6-of-11 from three (55 percent) and 10-of-11 (92 percent) from the charity stripe.
- Jackson and Gilbert each finished with 12 points. Jackson added an assist and a steal, while Gilbert grabbed a pair of rebounds and blocked a shot. Rush tallied eight points and added three rebounds, two assists and four steals.
- Mitchell led all scorers with 23 points and six rebounds. Cheatham had 12 points for VSU, Sonya Franklin had 11, and Kenya Samone Dixon added nine points and 13 rebounds.

- The game marked the 16th time this season Rush has been the only Lady Statesmen player to make a three-point field goal.
