HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – The University of Alabama in Huntsville used a big fourth inning to surge past the Lady Statesmen, 4-0, and earn the three-game sweep on March 19, at Charger Park in Huntsville, Ala.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Solid pitching kept the game scoreless through the first three innings.
- In the top of the fourth inning, Jordan Jones singled through the right side for the first hit of the game and give Delta State its first baserunner. Mari Alex Sandridge singled to left field, and Jones advanced to third. But Madison Zoeller flied out to end the inning.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Chargers finally broke the silence. Ashley Cornell smashed a three-run bomb over the left centerfield wall to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead.
- The Chargers loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth. Brooke Miller singled to right field, and Erin Jewell doubled. Shannon Long was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Jada Hayes. Hayes drew a bases loaded walk, and the Chargers took a 4-0 lead. Bailie Springfield was called from the bullpen to replace Sandridge in the circle. She pitched out of the bases loaded jam, but the damage was done.
- Madison Zoeller hit a two-out double to center in the top of the seventh, but Colben Patin struck out to end the game.
- Taylor Tucker (2-3) suffered the loss. In four innings, Tucker allowed three runs, all earned on two hits. She struck-out one, but walked five. Sandridge allowed one earned run on two hits. Springfield struck out two and did not give up a hit.
- Tyler Harrison (7-4) earned the win. Harrison struck out 11 Lady Statesmen and sacrificed three hits for her second shutout of the series.
STAT OF THE DAY
- Both of UAH's three-run home runs in the series came after a leadoff walk was issued in the inning.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- All three games remained scoreless through two innings.
- Delta State tallied three hits on the day, compared to four for UAH.
- Delta State falls to 2-8 on the road.
- Sandridge remains in the top 10 for lowest ERA in the GSC.
- Zoeller was the only Lady Statesman to record a hit in all three games. She is currently riding a four-game hitting streak and four-game on base streak.
- UAH holds an 12-4 advantage in the past 16 meetings.
