CLEVELAND, Mississippi – After being down 3-0, the Lady Statesmen pulled within one run in the bottom of the seventh, but fell 3-2 in game one and were shutout 7-0 in game two against the University of North Alabama Lions on March 25, at University Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
- The Lions struck first when McKenna Ray homered to center field.
- UNA took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth off an RBI ground out.
- In the top of the seventh, Shelby Woodard singled, scoring Destiny Wright for UNA's final run of the game.
- Down 3-0, the Lady Statesmen headed to the bottom of the seventh for their last chance to salvage the game. Delta State began to make a comeback when Carlie Vice singled through the right side, scoring Madison Zoeller for Delta State's first run of the game. Abi Gibson followed with a two-out RBI single that plated Hannah Salmon for Delta State's second run, cutting UNA's lead 3-2. But Jordan Jones flied out to end the game.
- Starting pitcher, Bailie Springfield, suffered her third loss of the season. In 6.0 innings of work, she allowed two runs, both earned, on six hits. In 1.0 innings of relief, Brittany Taylor, gave up one run, earned, on two hits.
- Hillary Carpenter earned her 11th win of the season. In seven innings of work, she allowed two runs, both earned, six hits, and struck out seven.
- Kristen Mitchell, Abi Gibson, and Vice led the Lady Statesmen at the plate. Mitchell and Vice were both 1-for-1. Gibson was 2-for-4. She had Vice recorded Delta State's two RBIs of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 2
- North Alabama scored the first run of the game in the first inning when Regan Tittle doubled to left center, scoring Woodard.
- Madison Daniel scored on a fielder's choice in the top of the second to make it 2-0 for UNA.
- The Lions plated three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-0 lead over DSU. It all started with a home run by McKenna Ray with only one out. Amy Carden followed with a double to left field. She later scored on a double steal. Wright scored the fifth and final run of the inning on an error.
- Sanders homered to left field in the top of the sixth to make it 6-0 for North Alabama, and Tittle scored the final run of the game on a ground out.
- Starting pitcher, Mari Alex Sandridge, suffered the loss. Sandridge (2-6) gave up four runs, all earned, on six hits in 3.1 innings of work. In 3.2 innings of relief, Taylor Tucker gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits.
- Raven Cole (7-4) pitched the shut out, giving up only four hits.
- Abi Gibson, Madison Zoeller, and Sandridge combined for Delta State's four hits of the game.
- The Lady Statesmen left nine runners stranded compared to only five for North Alabama.

- Six out of the past eight games were decided by one run.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The Lady Statesmen fall to 5-4 in one-run games.
- The 7-0 loss in game two marks the fifth time Delta State has been shut out this season.
- Jordan Jones recorded her 11th double of the season. She is tied for second in the HSC in doubles.
- Gibson was the only Lady Statesmen to record a hit in both games.
- Despite today's loss, Springfield and Sandridge remain in the top 10 for lowest ERA in the GSC.
- Jones also earned her 10th stolen base of the season to take the team lead, while Sandridge recorded her ninth.
- Gibson collected her 13th RBI of the season, while Vice collected her second.
- Vice recorded her second start as a Lady Statesman in game two.
- Gibson is currently riding a four-game hitting streak and on base streak.
