Sandridge’s Career-High Five RBIs lifts DSU Past CBU

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Led by Mari Alex Sandridge's career-high five RBIs, the Lady Statesmen defeated Christian Brothers University 13-2 on April 1, at Bland Field in Memphis Tenn.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • The Lady Statesmen took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off a two-run home run by Mari Alex Sandridge.  
  • In the top of the second, the Lady Statesmen took a 3-0 lead off an RBI single by Olivia Dick. Jordan Jones then tripled down the right field line, plating Dick and Kory Watterson to make it 5-0. Sandridge grounded out scoring Jones for Delta State's sixth run of the game.
  • In the bottom of the second, Julia Schassburger homered, cutting DSU's lead 6-1.
  • In the top of the fourth, Watterson scored on an RBI single by Jones, and Nowell scored on an error to make it 8-1 for DSU. Madison Zoeller followed with a 2RBI single to left field, plating Sandridge and Jones.  
  • In the bottom of the fourth Schassburger doubled to center field, and Toni Rizzo scored the Lady Bucs' second run of the game on an error. The Lady Bucs then loaded the bases, but Bailie Springfield pitched out of the jam.
  • In the top of the fifth, Colben Patin doubled, plating Watterson for Delta State's 11th run of the game. Sandridge followed with a 2 RBI double, making the score 13-2. The mercy rule kicked in, and the Lady Statesmen earned the win in only five innings of play.
  • Springfield (6-4) earned the win. Springfield allowed only two runs on five hits and struck out five in four innings of work. In one inning of relief, Taylor Johnson gave up one hit and recorded a strikeout.
  • Starting pitcher suffered Jenna Cotta suffered the loss for CBU. In 1.1 innings, she allowed six runs, all earned, on six hits.  Sierra Anderson gave up seven runs, all earned, on eight hits in 3.2 innings of work.
 
STAT OF THE DAY
  • Delta State's 14 hits tied the season high.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Sandridge's two-run home run was her third homer of the season. She ties Kory Watterson for the team lead.
  • Sandridge's five RBIs are a career-high. She also recorded her third muli-RBI game of the season.
  • Watterson's two stolen bases are a game-high.
  • Patin recorded her first career hit and second RBI as a Lady Statesman.
  • Jones recorded her first triple of the season and fourth multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Going 3-for-3, Dick recorded her fourth multi-hit game of the season. Her three hits are a new game-high.
  • Delta State's 13 runs tied the third most scored in a game this season.
  • The Lady Statesmen snapped a four-game winning streak with today's win.
  • Springfield's five strikeouts are new career high.
