HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • The Lady Statesmen took a two-run lead in the top of the first when Mari Alex Sandridge blasted a two-run home run to left field, putting DSU up 2-0 over the Valdosta State Blazers.
  • In the circle, Sandridge held the Blazers to just one hit until the top of the third, when VSU took its revenge over Delta State. With two outs, Chelsea Canara doubled to center field and scored on an RBI double by Hayley Cruthers. Cruthers then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI double by Taylor Hartenbach to tie the game, 2-2.
  •  In the bottom of the third, Delta State loaded the bases with no outs. Madison Zoeller singled to center field scoring Sandridge and Jordan Jones, and Delta State took a 4-2 lead. But the Lady Statesmen weren't done yet. Back-to-back RBI singles from Colben Patin and Kory Watterson gave Delta a 6-2 lead over the Blazers.
  • VSU managed to tack two more hits on the board in the top of the fourth, but Sandridge held the Blazers at bay for the next two innings.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Watterson homered to left field, to put Delta State up by five runs, 7-2.
  • But the Blazers didn't go down quietly. A two-out RBI single from Cruthers plated Caylee Hancock for VSU's third run of the game, but a groundout ended the game.
  • Sandridge earned the win to improve to 5-7. In seven innings of work, she allowed three runs, all earned, on seven hits and struck out seven.
  • Kathryn Carter suffered the loss (15-3). In six innings of work, she allowed seven runs, six earned, on 11 hits and struck out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 2
  • The Blazers struck first in the top of the first inning when Brandy Morgan singled to right field, scoring Chelsea Canara for the first run of the game.
  • The Blazers extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third when Canara homered to left field.
  • VSU held Delta State to just three hits until the bottom of the fourth, when the Lady Statesmen made a comeback. A pair of two-out singles by Carlie Vice and Abi Gibson put runners at first and second for Colben Patin, who singled to shortstop, driving home Vice for Delta State's first run of the game. Kory Watterson followed with an RBI single that scored Gibson and tied the game 2-2.
  • The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth. Patin drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Zoeller for Delta State's third run of the game, and the Lady Statesmen took the lead. Vice scored on a sac fly by Watterson, and Delta State headed to the top of the seventh with a 4-2 lead.
  • A leadoff walk put the tying run at the plate for the Blazers in the top of the seventh, but Lacey Crandall lined into a double play, and McIntyre grounded out to end the game.
  • Bailie Springfield (8-5) earned the win in the circle for the Lady Statesmen. In seven innings, she gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits.
  • Avery Lamb (13-5) suffered the loss. She gave up four runs, three earned, on nine hits, and struck out three in six innings.
